Students will understand how machine learning algorithms recognize patterns in text (poetry) and apply these concepts in Scratch programming.
“Machine Learning (ML) Applications"
1. An interactive ML project will demonstrate the comparison of the poems created by the two poets (Eminescu and Blaga).
2. The lesson is based on data comparison and pattern recognition in ML.
3.Engaging students by combining AI technology with literature
“Integration of Art and Technology”:
1. You will use poetry to show ML's ability to process and understand human language, blending artistic expression with technology.
2. Poetry will help students appreciate the subtleties of language
3. Encouraging creativity in coding, open discussions about poetry and technology, and hands-on activities.
4. Poets from the bibliography of the national exams will be used
“Lesson Preparation and Evaluation”:
1. Pre-lesson: Comparing the basic concepts of the poems.
2. Post-lesson: Reflective writing on how ML and poetry intertwine.
"Lesson Evaluation"
1. By finding the similarities and differences in the poems of the two poets with the help of ML
2. The creation of new poems with the help of AI tools in accordance with the styles of the two poets (Eminescu and Blaga)
2. Compare and contrast various poets’ styles using ML
- Brainstorming about what the students know about Eminescu and Blaga (one key word each) and create a cluster on the board with these words
- Introduce the concept of ML in the analysis of a poem.
- Provide written instructions and verbal explanations.
- Use hands-on activities in Scratch to complete the tasks described in the worksheet.
1.Task:
Students will create a simple ML model to compare the poems of the two poets. For this they will introduce 5 poems for each poet (Eminescu and Blaga)
The teacher encourages the students to experiment with the MLforkids platform and Scratch.
The students will identify similarities and differences between the poems of the two poets, uploaded in the ML platform.
A graphic organizer (Venn diagram) will be created using the information obtained using Scratch programming.
The teacher provides additional support or modified assignments for students.
2.Organization:
Work in pairs or small groups to brainstorm and analyze patterns in language.
3.Differentiation:
Depending on the programming skills of the students, they will create different models of ML and programming in Scratch.
basic level: introducing 5 poems for each poet in the ML platform and train the Machine Learning model.
level 1: programming in Scratch to identify similarities between the poems of the two poets.
level 2: programming in Scratch to identify differences between the poems of the two poets.
level 3: programming in Scratch to identify similarities and differences between the poems of the two poets.
Link to Objectives:
Each student will create 2 poems using AI Tools similar to Eminescu and Blaga’s poems paying attention to the similarities and differences identified using ML model
Sharing:
Students present their ML models, discuss their findings and their created poems.
Next Lesson:
Introduction to the next lesson on ML applications and analysis of only one poet and his poems in order to identify the theme considering the dominating words/expressions.
- Apps: Scratch, Machine Learning for Kids platform.
- Equipment: Computers with internet access, projector for demonstrations.
- Supplementary: Printed worksheets on basic ML concepts, example poems for reference, links to the Eminescu and Blaga opera.
